The popular flowering Bloombux® box tree alternative is now available in magenta

19. Januar 2021

Since being introduced to the market four years ago, the Bloombux has become one of the most successful box tree alternatives. After all, the plant – which is resistant to box tree fungus and leaffolder – is perfect for ornamental clipping and shines right from the start with lush blossoms in May/June. Compact, healthy growth with high pruning tolerance are some of the positive qualities of the Bloombux variety, which was cultivated from the wild rhododenron varieties hirsutum and micranthum.

Now, this crowd pleaser will be joined by a long awaited second colour: Inkarho GmbH is expanding the bestseller's colour range with the new Bloombux Magenta. "We are responding to our buyers' wish for blossoms in another colour", explains INKARHO managing director Ralf Lüttmann. Bloombux Magenta not only appeals with its dark, thin foliage, but above all with its more intense, magenta-coloured blossoms. The new Bloombux provides vibrant touches of colour with its red cup-shaped leaves, which emerge in abundance on this ornamental shrub. Like the existing Bloombux Pink, the Bloombux Magenta is an ungrafted, lime-tolerant Inkarho rhododendron, which thrives in almost any humus-rich garden soil. Bloombux Magenta also forms a resilient root system and, as a lime-tolerant variety, flourishes in almost all soil conditions.

Above all, however, the Bloombux's high resistance to disease and pests as well as its 100% winter hardiness make it an exceptionally popular alternative to the box tree. While other box tree alternatives require additional protection during heavy frosts, the evergreen Bloombux Pink and Bloombux Magenta varieties fare exceptionally well during the cold months of the year. Both varieties are frost-resistant up to ca. -24°C and have even withstood harsh winters in alpine regions and Scandinavia since being introduced to the market. Both winter-hardy  Bloombux varieties are perfect for ornamental clipping and can be shaped into a topiary ball or used as compact edging for flower beds. As a result, the Bloombux is not only suitable as a solitary for flower beds, but also as a decorative topiary ball on the patio or balcony and for ground cover. As a small hedge, the Bloombux can also be used to frame flower beds or as a structuring element for grave design.

A further advantage: In spring, the Bloombux attracts a large number of bumblebees and other insects, meeting customers' demand for plants offering a number of benefits. As a lime-tolerant rhododenron, the Bloombux can also be grown in soils with reduced peat content. Bloombux Magenta is delivered to retail outlets in a reddish-pink pot and printed with the Inkarho logo. The Bloombux Magenta will be available in 2-litre containers and also as small Nuggets by Bloombux in TB 10.5. The 5-litre and popular topiary ball will also be available in the coming years.
